Should we have more bank/public holidays ?? Here in the UK, we get 2 days off in December, we get Good Friday/Easter Monday, then the Spring Holiday, the The August bank holiday, and that is it.

I think that we should have another couple of bank holidays.. it always seems ages from the Spring Bank holiday to the one in August, and also then from August to Christmas is also ages away.
I would love to see a bank holiday in July, and also one in October, and while I am at it why not one in February !

There should be one every two months at least to encourage people to relax, recharge their batteries, and become, ahem!, more motivated to work!!!!

Seriously though, we should, we are a very long way behind most places in Europe, AND Scotland get far more Bank Holidays than England does too... > >

Bang on Maxine, I would say that after a public holiday, it does make you feel better. Plus, it gives you somthing to look forward to.
The only shame, is for those that still have to work.... I think that all of the shops should also be closed, or at least only be open for a maximum of 4 hours...

In Amsterdam there was a bank holiday for Whitsun. In Guernsey there is a Bank Holiday on May 9, our Liberation Day.

May is great because there are hardly any Mondays to work! But more Bank Hols would be good.

Holidays won`t be allowed for the whole of December where I work... I`ll be working Christmas Day and Boxing Day from 9am to 1pm.

That means I`ve to take the kids to my mums at 8am,or get someone to come and sit with them until I get home.

Over in Wirral where I work they actually have 2 days off on most Bank Holidays, which is nice.....

Personally I think there should be one Bank holiday every week. I beleive they used to be called Sundays.

I'm all for extra bank holidays, I know in some countries there are public holidays for certains birthdays etc and I think the UK should follow - even though we are not part of the UK we do have the same national holidays, plus another couple on top.

In the UK it'll be morally wrong and Politically incorrect, not to mention ageist to celebrate any birthday, national event or other special occasion for fear of upsetting someone.

And Bank holidays will be abolished because its unfair to the unemployed who don't get the benefit of the extra day off....

I am all the things I regret

TV cameras went onto the streets of Manchester to ask anyone who is`nt English, white,or christian, if they were offended by Christmas, and they all said NO.

Up in Scotland an SNP MSP recently campaigned for St. Andrew's Day (I think) to become a Bank Holiday. In the end, he was successful - but we don't really have an extra holiday at all. If employers allow their workers to have that day off, they would have to work another bank holiday, if you see what I mean...

If it wasn't St. Andrew's Day, it was Burns Night or something simular...   Anyway, you see the point that I'm trying to make!

IMHO in the UK Nov 6th and 11th should be bank holidays the 6th to have a day to get over the fireworks party and the 11th to remember those who lost their lives.
(and today they must wonder what for)

Should definately have 11th November, as well as remembering on the Sunday. And I`m sure they would wonder, but it would be a sin to speak of their sacrifice being in vain.

Sadly, and IMHO if we did do this, it should be a day to remember, shops all closed... tho' I doubt that this would ever happen.

Just a thought here,

Why do shops owned by non-Christians still close down for Christian holidays ???

or in another instance...

My sister used to work for a Muslim shopkeeper who got her to work for extra hours during Ramadan, yet he would not give her extra time off over the Christmas period to spend with her children.

Nigel ?  Oh yeah, he's up there !

You should see the traffic jams in the direction of the local shopping complex on sundays here.... it`s crazy, it`s worse than on saturdays. They open from 1pm until 6pm,.. it reminds me of the movie when everyone is gathering supplies cos they have to stay underground for 6 months, to avoid radiation poisoning.

Its all like bread and milk.... If the punters find out a shop/supermarket is going to close for more than 24 hours.... a weeks supply has to be got... Mnn the public eh!!
