....Well, it is if you're a Beta tester! Sorry!

I just gave my Vista a long overdue reinstall, and applied SP1 too, which was made available to Beta testers this week. So if I find any good stuff (or more likely bad) I'll stick it on ere.

If theres any bugs or annoying quirks you have seen in Vista, let me know, I'll see if they appear to have been fixed so far...

OK Service pack 1 is now RTM (which means its finished) and is available to Connect testers and manufacturers. MSDN (RICH Microsoft technicians) will get it soon, and the rest of the world will get it mid March.

First reports suggest 551 bug fixes, the large file issues are apparently sorted out, and it has made some improvements in speed and reliability in tests by the usual non Microsoft Sceptics. It wont have the impact that SP2 for XP had. But its a start.

Look out for it either at Microsofts website or via Automatic updates on your PC in March.

Have you read any reviews yet Neil? Not sure if theres truth in the claims yet. I can't install the RTM because I can't uninstall the last beta (Blue Screens!).....

The reviews I've seen are nothing to get excited about.

Your best bet is to install ths onto your XP machine:

You can pretend you've got Vista and once Vista SP2 turns up you might want to consider ditching XP

Tried that dave, it does slow you down... I doubt we'll see Vista SP2 as the new Windows 7 will be around by 2009. Looks like Win Vista was a bit of a stopgap, even a beta in itself to appease the masses. If you don't want Vista you'll be OK with XP SP2 at least until then!

My company are usually really slow in changing operating systems but plan to go to Vista in the next couple of months. I find this quite incredible, they've just given us new PC's with 1GB of RAM in preparation
I know speed isn't everything (and neither is size - weh hey!) but I'm an impatient so and so.
