The holidays roots can be traced to Britain, where Boxing Day is also known as St Stephen`s Day. Reduced to the simplest essence, its origins are found in a long ago practice of giving cash or durable goods to those of the lower classes.
Gifts among equals were exchanged on or before Christmas Day,but beneficences to those less forunate were bestowed the day after.

(I copied that btw, cos it explained it better..... I knew it tho)   Whats your version then???

the Oxford English Dictionary attributes it to the Christmas box; the verb box meaning: "To give a Christmas-box (colloq.); whence boxing-day."

we had here Massacre of the Innocents at 28th of december.(ahum my birthday!!!!)

this means that The king Herodes was afraid for the arrival of the new jewish king. That means the end of his power and kingdom.
From the whise man he heard that the new king will be born in Nazareth.
In their dreams the wise man find out that Herodes had true intensions  to kill Jesus.they returned back home by a diffrent route.Herodes gets Angry and he ordered to kill all male children from 2 years and younger.Jesus escapes, because his dad get's a vision of a angel. He warns Jozef for this.

I read over the last couple of weeks about this, and apparently there is also link to medieval times when "masters" gave their "servants" boxes containing left over food from the Christmas Day banquets, and that was where the "Boxing" bit came from....

Dunno if it is correct, but it's definitely what was written!
